Medium Density

Airflow Management-Medium Density – up to 10kw (Paramount Tower of Cool)

Wright Line’s patented Paramount Tower of Cool incorporates your building’s air-conditioning and enclosures into a single, complete, closed loop cooling system. The patented system design allows for up to 10kW of heat removal within just one enclosure, by far one of the best air-cooled solutions on the market. Using strategically placed fans in the front, back, top and sides of the enclosure, the Tower of Cool evenly distributes 55 degrees building supply air to the intake of all rack-mounted computer equipment. Front mounted fans supply cold air evenly to the face of equipment, and rear mounted fans remove warm exhaust – at a rate of 900 cfm (1530m3/hr). The result of this carefully planned airflow management? The Tower of Cool allows equipment to run at lower temperatures resulting in increased hardware reliability and increased data centre electrical efficiency. The Tower of Cool can ultimately reduce the required total airflow of your mission critical equipment by up to 50%, thus cutting in half the number of CRACUs required in your data centre. Fan energy accounts for 28% of the total cooling plant energy; so the Tower of Cool can actually reduce the cost to cool a data centre by as much as 14%. Additionally, there is an estimated 6 -10% reduction of the electrical demand load on the grid. Not only that, but reducing the number of CRACUs also consequently reduces a broad range of operating, maintenance, installation, and other ongoing costs.

The Wright Line HCS system is a simple, scalable, and low cost solution to more effectively manage the ever-increasing heat loads in your data centre. Our patent-pending design adapts to onsite enclosures and integrates seamlessly into your existing cooling infrastructure. The ideal solution for high density thermal containment, Wright Line’s passive HCS system provides a controlled environment for the heat exhaust of your IT equipment – solid front and rear panels that force hot air exhaust to the top rear of the enclosure where it is ducted via a chimney to your precision air conditioners (through plenum ceilings or high air returns). Studies have shown that many data centres are actually over-cooled in an attempt to ensure that the required air temperature is reached in all areas of the room. By adopting a passive HCS system, you not only dramatically increase the predictability of your data centre’s performance, but save costs and implement a truly green thermal solution.

TAB Technical Environments recognizes that thermal control is an ongoing and developing critical concern in every data centre. For that reason we have partnered with Wright Line to provide the fully scalable Heat Containment System (HCS). In addition to providing excellent passive airflow management of up to 20Kw, Wright Line’s patent-pending HCS system can meet even ultra-high density data centre needs via the use of fan assisted active airflow management. With a move to active HCS systems, you can guide your data centre above the 20Kw threshold and into the future. The greatest flexibility to the Wright Line HCS system is that not only can it be adapted to any of our premier enclosures (Paramount, Vantage, VS2), but it also can be adapted to the enclosures of your existing data centre, regardless of supplier. Our HCS systems are fully vendor agnostic and can be used in conjunction with all of your existing enclosure systems.

Airflow Management-Accessories

In today’s dynamic data centre environment, IT equipment is refreshed on a frequent basis. These changes often leave open U-spaces and gaps between equipment and the enclosure that allow re-circulation of hot exhaust air to the equipment inlet. This can cause overheating of the equipment and subsequent shutdown of servers when the maximum temperature threshold is reached. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), as well as most major server and storage manufacturers recognize this issue and recommend that steps be taken to maximize and improve the hot aisle/cold aisle airflow system in the data centre. TAB Technical Environments understands this need and is proud to offer a wide range of airflow management accessories, all designed with the sole purpose of ensuring that cold, unmixed air is directed specifically to the critical equipment that needs it. TAB recommends the following best practices for your data centre:

  • Blanking Panels – ensure that air is not wasted and remixed due to empty U-space in your enclosures. Available in plastic, metal or clear lexan (for reverse mounted equipment) and in single or bulk packages.
  • Brush Strips – ensure that you are getting effective airflow control and preventing remix when cables are run through the floor or ceiling of your data centre. TAB offers both Koldlok and Hotblock styles of infloor and raised grommet accessories.
  • Gromments – offer exceptional airflow with 75% perforation, a 19% increase over the industry standard. These are available as front or rear format, full or split format, left or right hinged and are also field reversible. The doors feature tool-less door removal, a brushed aluminum door pull and a variety of locks for your secure environment.
  • High Flow Doors – create more efficient cold aisles by blocking an obvious cold-air escape route and entry for hot air re-circulation and air mixing. Flexible enough to install almost anywhere on any manufacturer’s brand enclosure and decreases wasted air by as much as 70%. Available in three styles – from simple containment curtains to building-integrated cafe-style doors and full containment walls.
  • End Row Doors – ensure that you can have effective cable management without having to sacrifice airflow management. TAB offers a wide range of brush strips compatible with our Paramount, Vantage and VS2 line of enclosures.
